DORIAN TRAIL is a quick and easy ensemble piece. This delightful work for new players will quickly develop their skills and ability to cover the marimba with ease. Full of energy, it is built on the Dorian Mode and is a brilliant performance work for new ensembles to explore. Sounds very effective on stage.

RHYTHM: basic with rests, triplets in one bar for Marimba 1 only.
TECHNICAL: This piece was designed to be played on multiple marimbas [3 standard marimbas and one bass] however it will still work with a smaller number of instruments by placing parts on the same marimba at different octaves. If no bass is available, play on a standard marimba at the lower end - if notes are out of range transpose up or down the octave.
PERFORMANCE/TEACHING NOTES:
Careful attention to mallets is important to help players move smoothly for example the initial theme in bars 1 could be played with various left/right combinations : LLR RLL
DORIAN TRAIL is built on two basic chords that move back and forwards throughout the work D minor and C major, this makes the work very easy to learn. Any section can be repeated if desired. The 6/8 time signature and simple dynamics ensure players develop confidence and perform successfully.
