COASTLINE is a very popular piece. A bright, fun and uplifting piece that gets audiences moving, this is a fantastic piece for any marimba group. It is as much fun to learn as it is to play. Great for large ensembles but also effective with the minimum number of players. If you are looking for a performance piece that is energetic and buoyant that audiences will love COASTLINE is well worth considering.

PERFORMANCE/TEACHING NOTES:
COASTLINE is an exciting work that is uplifting, full of variety with weaving lines through all parts. Works well in all performance settings especially celebration ceremonies. A simple rhythmic motif underpins the entire work and this needs to be precise and light. Use a soft touch in passages marked soft and moderately soft to create the overall mood and ensure a buoyant feel to the piece.
Two bass parts are included however if only one bass marimba is available it is recommended to play bass marimba 1 on that instrument and play pass 2 on the lower octave of a standard marimba.
Coastline works effectively with just 6 players however if you have extra players and spare marimbas try playing some of the parts in different ranges - this creates a new layer of texture to the work and if the dynamic markings are observed it will create a full rich sound.
